Why Shoulder Pain Should Not Be Ignored

Shoulder pain is a common complaint amongst people of any race, gender and occupation. There is a multiplicity of reasons as to why people experience such, with stress being one of the most common. However, there are other more serious conditions which require a person to seek medical attention as soon as possible. Here are some serious reasons why one should set an appointment to the doctor once a symptom is experienced:

  • Rotator Cuff Tear – occurs when the rotator cuff’s tendon is separated from the bone. This condition often requires surgery.
  • Frozen Shoulder – this is a common condition wherein the patient experiences extreme pain as well as stiffness of the joint.
  • Calcific Tendonitis – happens when there are deposits of calcium in the tendons. Treatment depends on the severity of the condition.
  • Shoulder Instability – often occurs as a result of traumatic injuries in the shoulder which results in loose joints.
  • Shoulder Separation – results when the acromioclavicular joint is disrupted.
  • Shoulder Dislocation – happens when the top of a person’s arm bone is disconnected from the scapula.
  • Arthritis - although occurs less often than that of the knee and hip, shoulder arthritis is possible, and may even require a joint replacement surgery if serious damages occur.
  • Biceps Tendon Rupture – this happens when a rupture in the tendons of the biceps muscle occurs near a joint.

Since the aforementioned causes are not commonly known by many, a lot of people often take shoulder pain for granted. However, because this condition may be a a symptom of something more serious, it is best to consult with a medical professional at once when one experiences unusual pain. It always best to be safe than sorry.

I agree with the idea of consulting a doctor when the symptoms above mentioned are experienced. Everything should not be taken for granted. However, why wait for those symptoms to happen when at first, you can already feel something’s wrong with one of the joints in your body? If you feel like there is something uncomfortable happening to your body system, try to google about it and perform first aid, that is to consider natural remedies in easing out the kind of pain you are experiencing.

I agree with your comments. Sometimes when we are workaholic especially when you cannot take leave from work, we easily forget about ourselves and keep going until we realised, it is either time to go to the doctor or it is too late.

Shoulder pain should not be ignored to avoid complications later on. Once, I ignored a recurring slight shoulder pain because it wasn’t really hurting much, as to prevent me from doing my daily household activities. Later, I learned that I had tendinitis which entailed stiff neck, headache and generalized pains on my other shoulder and back.
