Treatment for Shoulder Pain

People often regard simple muscle and joint pains as a normal situation thinking that it could be cured by generic drugs or plain medication. This is not a safe way of treating any sickness or ache that we are feeling, for all we know, these pains might be a sign of a growing disease or disorder. So for us to be able to prevent the disease from getting worse, we have to visit the doctor immediately.

So how do we know if simple muscular pains already needs to be brought to a medical expert’s attention, for example; shoulder pain? You already need to call the doctor when the severe shoulder pain that you’re feeling gives you sleepless nights, worst during cold weather. You are already unable to perform uncomplicated things or duties such as carrying objects using your arm or when raising your arm seems to be too tasking. You touch your shoulders and you feel that there’s a deformity, a bruise or inflammation. During times that you are resting, that’s when pain usually attacks, and pain persists for days. It is also a sign that you need to call the doctor when you are getting chills, high fever, redness in specific areas, this might be because there’s already an infection growing inside your body.

Most of us think that these pains and symptoms could easily be treated. The safest way is to ask and visit a doctor every time we feel something unusual happening to our body. In that way we can target the cause and the disorder right away, so we won’t feel sorry in the end.

What are the treatments for shoulder pain? Once the doctor or the medical expert is able to determine the cause of the problem, it is easier to administer cure or treatment. There are several treatments for shoulder pain but not all are suitable for every condition.

The simplest treatment is to rest. This may be the most universal way to treat any pain that we are feeling. If pain is caused by too much stress on the shoulder area, we have to rest our shoulder joints so pain and inflammation would subside. But then we still need to take necessary precautions when we rest our joints. Keep in mind that extended restriction of movement can cause frozen shoulder. We could also use ice or heat packs to treat shoulder pains. Stretching or exercises that target the shoulder area are also effective in curing shoulder pain. Since shoulder pain is an orthopedic condition, physical therapy is one of the most trusted treatment. Therapists use certain modalities that could increase strength, help patients recover from immobility and later assist patients to perform their normal activities. Specialized exercises help the muscle and the joints to recuperate, therefore relieving pain connected with several conditions. NSAIDs or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory pain medications are prescribed to people with shoulder pain caused by arthritis, bursitis and tendonitis. For some, cortisone injection is prescribed.

Remember, before we start with any treatment, medical advice is essential. We have to know the cause of the shoulder pain first before we administer any form of treatment

Frozen Shoulder can lead to Depression

Our shoulders are undoubtedly one of the most useful or must I say most used part of our body. Looking at the anatomy of the shoulder, it is made up of three bones, and the tendons of four muscles. The bones are called the scapula or the shoulder blade, the humerus or the upper arm bone and the clavicle or the collarbone. The four muscles that compose the shoulder joint on the other hand are the supraspinatus, the infraspinatus, the teres minor and the subscapularis. The tendons of these muscles connects the bones making our arm move. We owe the wide range of movement that we can do with our arm to our shoulder’s complex composition. However despite of a quite remarkable anatomy is the lack of stability, that makes our shoulders prone to injuries.

Let’s focus on one particular medical condition concerning the shoulder. Frozen shoulder or Adhesive capsulitis is a disorder involving the shoulder joint capsules. In this condition the shoulder becomes stiff or hardened , thus restricting motion. Inflammation in the surrounding area is also present therefore causing severe shoulder pains. When someone has frozen shoulder, the pain in the area is very intense sometimes resulting to restlessness especially at night and even worsens when its cold. This condition if left untreated could lead to depression especially because, the condition somewhat hinders the patient from doing simple activities or chores. It should be treated as early as possible because it could last or worsen up to 3 years or more.

So the next time that you feel some aches in the shoulder area it is advised that we bring this up to a medical experts attention. That way we won’t regretful in the future.
