Shoulder Pain Traditional Treatments

The usual treatments for shoulder pain are usually through the use of pain reliever, tablets, injections and surgeries. Here are the usual treatments for this condition though these treatments can also be used with other shoulder problems:

1. Physiotherapy (PT): This method is applied during the “Frozen” stage. The “Frozen” stage is the time when the shoulder is already unable to move normally accompanied by pain. It is aimed at keeping the shoulder active by means of pushing the joint and stretching. Though, this method does not speed up recovery.

2. Exercise Therapy: This method is required during the “Freezing and Frozen” stages. The “Freezing” stage is the time when the condition is starting to take place, where pain is already felt over the outer part of the shoulder. Though it does not provide a cure, it is still an important method.

3. Cortisone injections: This is given during the freezing and frozen stages. The individual normally receives four injections and this can also depend on how severe the condition is. This medication seems to solve the problem and some individuals may receive months of pain relief. Though, most of the patients only receive this treatment for several weeks only.

4. Manipulation under anesthetic (MUA): This is usually done after six months starting from the time the freezing stage begun. This is performed under general anesthetic and then physiotherapy follows.

5. Suprascapular nerve block: This treatment is provided for individuals who are experiencing severe pain that is caused by the shoulder pain. This is given three times in three weeks through injections.
