Facts about Frozen shoulder
Frozen shoulder has been said to be a medical mystery. It has also been said to be the nastiest shoulder problem and some also says that it is the end-point of shoulder problems. This condition is rarely caused by an underlying ailment. But according to experts, once this condition is treated it rarely happens again. The condition has been said to occur with no concrete reasons and trauma may also follow.
Here are the known facts about the frozen shoulder syndrome:
- The syndrome affects a 2 to 5% of the entire population.
- The syndrome commonly affects women and also diabetic patients.
- It also commonly affects individuals with Dupytren’s contracture.
- The syndrome can also be inherited.
- It can also be the result of auto-immune weakness.
- In Japan, it commonly affects individuals around the age of 40-70 years old.
Frozen shoulder syndrome is said to last for 30 months even more. There are three stages to this syndrome which are:
1. Freezing stage that lasts for 1 to 8 months.
2. Frozen stage that lasts for 9 to 16 months.
3. Thawing stage that lasts for 12 to 40 months.
There are different treatments to solve this problem but not all treatments are able to completely heal the frozen shoulder syndrome. Some treatment such as physiotherapy are only done to keep the shoulder mobile and not to completely eliminate the problem. But if the case is worse, drastic measures are considered such as surgery.
